PURPOSE
This Award is to recognize an outstanding young person demonstrating communication skills and leadership associated with the chemical industry and contributing to its success.
ELIGIBILITY
The award is open to any person 29 or under on 1 September 2012 who is employed in the chemical manufacturing industry or is working for a company supplying key services to chemical manufacturers in the UK.
A manager of the company should nominate the candidate. Each site or major unit of a company may submit up to three candidates. Nominations should be sent by the closing date 23 March 2011 to Mike Lancaster (see below).
Following an initial review of the nomination forms selected candidates will be invited for interview on 3 May 2012 in BASF's Cheadle office applicants will then be notified if they have been short-listed by 11 May 2012. The winner will be announced at the Chemical Industry Awards Dinner on 21 June in Newcastle and each short-listed candidate will receive an invitation to attend. Winning applicants should be willing to participate in publicity.
CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed on a combination of:
- Ability, or potential, to convey to others the excitement and opportunities the industry offers.
- An appreciation of the issues and challenges facing the industry and its vision.
- Strong personal commitment to the chemical industry.
- Sensitivity, good humour and leadership skills.
JUDGING
Nomination forms will be used to identify a pre-shortlist of candidates who will be invited to give a presentation and be interviewed by a panel of judges on 3 May 2012. Unfortunately candidates who are not available on this day cannot be considered. Short listed candidates will be notified shortly after the interview and invited to attend the Awards Ceremony on 23 June at which the winner will be announced.
The judging Panel will comprise the sponsor, a CIA staff member and two independent members.
The CIA and the sponsor will arrange a programme of activities for the winner, including being chair of the Future Forum. Submission of a nomination will be regarded as commitment in principle to fulfill this programme.
CLOSING DATE
Entries to be made electronically in confidence to Mike Lancaster on the Entry Form, signed by a member of the company/site leadership team, by 23 March 2012.
