Resource Efficiency Award

PURPOSE

This Award is for the company or operating unit that can demonstrate excellence in resource efficiency. This may include the use of technology or systems to reduce waste, water use or an improvement in the conversion of raw materials into useful product. Energy efficiency is covered in a separate award.

ELIGIBILITY

The award is open to any CIA member company or one associated/working with it. Following initial judging, applicants will be notified if they have been short-listed by 1st May 2008. The winner will be announced at the Chemical Industry Awards Dinner on 25th June in Leeds and a representative from each short-listed company will receive an invitation to attend. Winning applicants should be willing to participate in publicity.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will be adopting a flexible and wide-reaching approach to selecting a short-list and winner, looking for innovative approaches across the whole area of resource efficiency management (excluding energy). Typical criteria considered will be:

• Demonstration that effective waste management systems are in place and that practical steps are being taken to reduce waste over a sustained period.
• Demonstration that the company / site is managing its water use responsibly and has systems in place to minimise consumption.
• Demonstration that the company / site has systems in place to monitor raw material use and has actively taken steps to improve the amount of raw material converted to product.
• Demonstration that the company or site is effectively working with third parties to improve its own resource efficiency or is contributing to improving resource efficiency of the wider industry.
  

JUDGING

The judging panel will consist of the Sponsor, a CIA member of staff and at least one independent expert.

CLOSING DATE

Entries to be made in confidence to Mike Lancaster on the Entry Form which will be available in early December, signed by a member of the company leadership team, by Friday 21st March 2008.

All information provided in the entry form will be treated in the strictest confidence. It will be used solely for the purpose of judging.
