PURPOSE

The purpose of this Award is to recognise the contribution of engineering excellence in the chemical industry towards improved business performance. The award will recognise innovation and outstanding delivery of engineering within chemical operator organisations or from suppliers who provide outsourced engineering services to the industry.

The scope of the award will cover all necessary engineering activities including for example: Asset reliability improvement, technical problem solving, shutdown management, contract strategy development, capital productivity improvement, cost reduction programmes and process technology application. The award will recognise engineering excellence that produces tangible business benefits such as contribution to improving safety and environmental performance, reducing engineering costs, improving plant output, operating efficiency or product quality.

ELIGIBILITY

The Award is companies manufacturing in the process sector: chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, packaging, rubber and plastics as well as those providing engineering services to this sector. Following initial judging, applicants will be notified if they have been short-listed by 11 May 2012. The winner will be announced at the Chemical Industry Awards Dinner on 21 June in Newcastle and a representative from each short-listed company will receive an invitation to attend. Winning applicants should be willing to participate in publicity.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will be adopting a flexible and wide-reaching approach to selecting a short-list and winner. In particular they will be looking for:

  • Recognised contribution to business performance improvement in the chemical industry.
  • The application of innovation or excellence in delivery of engineering to achieve the business benefits recorded.
  • Recognition of the success of these practices by industry bodies and other stakeholders
  • Ability to measure this success in the most appropriate way
  • Sustainability and extension of this application within the site and/or to other locations in the chemical industry.

JUDGING

The judging panel will consist of the Sponsor, a CIA member of staff and at least one independent expert.

CLOSING DATE

Entries to be made electronically in confidence to Mike Lancaster on the Entry Form, signed by a member of the company/site leadership team, by Friday 23 March 2012.
